Xbox Studios head says they need “smaller games” immediately after shutting down small studios

HI-FI RUSH

The head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty says the company needs smaller games, despite the company shuttering several smaller studios just the day before.

According to The Verge, Booty made the statement in a town hall style meeting where he said: “We need smaller games that give us prestige and awards.”

Fans are considering the statement to be more than a little tone deaf after the company shut down Arkane Austin (Redfall), Tango Gameworks (Hi-Fi Rush), and more.

What has made the situation even more frustrating for fans is that Hi-Fi Rush in particular has been considered both a commercial and critical success after it released last year.

While large game publishers continue to snap up indies, here at Niche Gamer we’ll continue to do our best to highlight the independent games that we think look fun. You can check out our Niche Spotlight category here.
