Microsoft are testing the 4K UI resolution option for the Xbox Series X via the Alpha Skip-Ahead Insiders program.
The Xbox Insiders beta testing program has within it the Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead “rings;” invite only tiers that handle the earliest stages of Xbox console OS feature testing. Today’s update for the Alpha Skip-Ahead Insiders includes increased UI resolution on Xbox Series X; up to 4K providing the console is connected to a compatible display.
The Verge notes that prior to this, the UI elements at best ran at 1080p. At this early stage, HDR and whether the feature will come to Xbox Series S were not revealed. Director of Program Management also confirmed on Twitter that the change would not affect available memory for games.
