Way back in July of last year, word came about that China was loosening its policies on foreign video game consoles, despite the fact that the consoles themselves are frequently made in the country.

The ten year ban on game consoles was put in place to protect the youth of the country, and despite this enthusiasts still got their hands on the hardware or game systems, but through illegitimate means.

Now that it’s official and everything has been set in motion, Microsoft is looking to capitalize on this by officially launching the Xbox One in mainland China, this September, via a partnership with Shanghai based BesTV.

“For the first time ever, Xbox One is coming to China with a full games and entertainment system.

Here at Microsoft we have been on a mission to build the very best gaming and entertainment experiences for gamers everywhere, and in China there are over half a billion gamers, so the opportunity to create global and locally created content to delight millions and millions of gaming families everywhere is something that we’re really passionate about.”

Speaking for BesTV, Zhang Dazhong, senior VP of parent company Shanghai Media Group, said that the company decided to partner with Microsoft because the Xbox One console is the “most amazing family friendly entertainment product in the world,” and it believes it “will achieve great success in China.”

Despite this amazing bit of news, the Chinese government and their cultural committee reserve the right to restrict and even ban games that could be available on any consoles sold within the nation, most especially those that include drug use, violence, gambling, and nudity.
