Boyd Multerer, the Xbox Director of Development and founder of Xbox Live and XNA, has parted ways with Microsoft.

His leaving was announced on his personal Twitter account, to which he quickly gave a reason for his departure:

“Goodbye Microsoft. It was a good run. Xbox was Great! Time to do something new.”

It’s worth noting that Multerer had an amicable relationship with the company, as one would expect. He officially joined Microsoft back in 1997 after doing contract work for a few years. He founded the dev team that would later create Xbox Live in 2000, only to see Xbox Live actually launch in 2002.

Prior to his departure, he was working on “unannounced secret stuff at Microsoft,” which can basically turn out to be anything really.
