Microsoft have announced that Xbox Games with Gold will not include Xbox 360 games starting this fall.
According to new email sent out by Microsoft, they have “reached the limit” of their ability to provide free Xbox 360 titles. As such, they’ll no longer offer Xbox 360 games starting in in October 2022.
Here is the text of the email sent explaining the matter (reproduced on Reddit):
Beginning October 1, 2022, the monthly games provided to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Live Gold members via Games with Gold will no longer include Xbox 360 titles. We have reached the limit of our ability to bring Xbox 360 games to the catalog; however, Games with Gold will continue to include exciting Xbox One titles and exclusive savings each month. This will not impact any Xbox 360 games that you downloaded before October 2022. Any Xbox 360 titles that you redeem via Games with Gold before that time are yours to keep on your Xbox account, regardless of whether you continue your subscription. Thank you for being a loyal member. Team Xbox
As of right now, Xbox Games with Gold has provided 2 free Xbox One titles and 2 free Xbox 360 titles each month.
After this change, it is unknown if they will be substituting the loss with more Xbox One games or if the amount given each month will decrease down to just 2. Another possibility is that perhaps this could mean the beginning of Xbox Series X|S titles being added to the lineup, despite how new the consoles are.
This news seems to show the change in Microsoft’s direction with their Xbox Gold service. Recently they had to clarify that games received through this program on newer consoles were tied to subscriptions. While that did not affect Xbox 360 titles, it will not matter come October.
