Xbox Game Preview Feature Mimics Steam Early Access

Steam’s early access program has certainly had its ups and downs. Though many detest the feature, others appreciate getting a crack at a game while it’s still in development. While it may be controversial, the practice of early access has made its way to consoles in the forms of Microsoft’s just announced Game Preview feature.

Much like Steam, you’ll be able to buy and play games while still in development, their completeness (or lack thereof) your only hurdle to enjoyment.

The service will open with four games at the start, those being Elite Dangerous, Sheltered, Day Z and The Long Dark. Two of those games, The Long Dark and Elite Dangerous, will be available tonight through Xbox Live.
