World of Warcraft Content Prior to Battle for Azeroth Now Subscription Only, No Purchase Required

Blizzard Entertainment has dropped all pricing for all World of Warcraft content prior to its upcoming Battle for Azeroth expansion. Now, the only thing you’ll have to pay for is a subscription, a move to further entice both new subscriptions and hopefully garner returning ones.

The 14-year old MMORPG has both a base game world, as well as six expansions all with their own regions, gear, dungeons, and more. The new change means you can access all of that for a $14.99 monthly subscription, however recent purchasers of the latest expansion, Legion, seem to be out of luck.

The upcoming expansion, Battle for Azeroth, will still need to be purchased once it launches if you want to have access to the latest content in the game. Battle for Azeroth will be available for $49.99 as a standalone expansion, but there’s also a “Complete Collection” available for $59.99 that has the expansion plus a slightly discounted 30 day game time subscription.

Alongside the new pricing changes is the big patch to prep the MMORPG for Battle for Azeroth, which launches today. You can read more about the 8.0 patch here in our previous report.

World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth is launching on August 14th. World of Warcraft is currently available for Windows PC and Mac.
