Today on the official website, CD Projekt released the system requirements for their upcoming CRPG, The Witcher 3. It’s something a lot of gamers have been dreading, and it looks like there may be a good reason to upgrade in some of our futures:
Minimum System Requirements
Intel CPU Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz
AMD CPU Phenom II X4 940
Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 660
AMD GPU Radeon HD 7870
RAM 6GB
OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
DirectX 11
HDD Space 40 GB
Recommended System Requirements
Intel CPU Core i7 3770 3,4 GHz
AMD CPU AMD FX-8350 4 GHz
Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 770
AMD GPU Radeon R9 290
RAM 8GB
OS 64-bit Windows 7 or 64-bit Windows 8 (8.1)
DirectX 11
HDD Space 40 GB
Though it’s to be expected, given the incredible detail in the game’s graphics and the size of the world, it still shocks me that a Radeon 7 series is the minimum for AMD users, when the 6 series has been powerful enough for me to max out even recent titles like Crysis 3 and Metro Redux. The 3.3ghz CPU requirement is a bit of surprise too, since many have been theorizing that they scaled down the PC version to avoid this sort of thing. (Most notably the new fur physics, which were mysteriously pulled from one of their trailers.)
Looks like none of that is an issue anymore though, since it’s quite obvious CD Projekt is going 100% in to the future with their tech for The Witcher 3. Is your PC ready?
