Indie developer Team Junkfish has announced Wilderdark, a new first-person survival horror game where you try to survive an island overrun with mutated dinosaurs and more.
Wilderdark is in development for Windows PC (via Steam) with a release set for later in 2026. A playable demo will launch next month on May 7th.
“We’ve been holding onto Wilderdark as a well-kept secret for over three years, and we’re super excited to finally shine a spotlight on it,” said Ellie Gibbs, Senior Marketing Manager at Junkfish in a press release. “After years of quietly building it behind-the-scenes, it feels amazing to share something that marks our return to the kind of horror our community has been asking for. The demo is just the beginning…step in next week and see what’s been lurking in the dark.”
Here’s a rundown on the game, plus its reveal trailer:
Wilderdark is a survival horror exploration game where you find yourself on an unnatural island infected with a mysterious ectoparasitic organism which is corrupting the dinosaurs and plantlife. Sent in by the organisation you work for in search of immortality, you are tasked with documenting the island’s ecosystem, collecting samples and unraveling the fate of previously vanished expeditions – including one led by your own parents.
Explore and investigate
A crash landing on the island means starting with minimal resources and tools. Stealth is required to survive the island filled with danger, and piece together the truth through environmental storytelling, photographic documentation, and crafted tools. Careful use of resources is the only way to hide and survive the hunt of apex predators.
Ectoparasites
Much is unknown of their origin and their effects on organic life, including humans. One wrong move could mean the end or the start of something unimaginable.
Can you escape the fate that has fallen so many and live to tell a tale?
