Wield the Claw of Broken Promises in Maya Breaker

I had the chance to check out Maya Breaker at the South Jersey Geek Fest this past weekend, and it looked pretty solid. The game is in development by one man, Michael Hayes, who is based out of Parsippany, New Jersey. While the game didn’t quite make it on Kickstarter, he is carrying on and trying to make this awesome concept come true.

The game is all about a mysterious female protagonist who wields the Claw of Broken Promises, a powerful weapon that was buried deep underground. The claw itself will let you swing from various points in the game world, and it will even let you fling objects at enemies, or throw the enemies themselves like ragdolls.

The world within Maya Breaker is one inspired by the 16-bit era of games, and more specifically, Super Metroid and Super Castlevania IV. The game is still in early stages of development, but the core mechanics are there, like the open world, metroidvania styled progression, the claw mechanics, and so on. You can even download a playable build of the game here.

Hayes previously worked on Antipole, a game that was released on Xbox Live Arcade and the Nintendo DSi. The game was featured in the Royale Indie Bundle of 2013.
