Yoshifumi Kondo and Studio Ghibli’s beloved classic film Whisper of the Heart is finally getting a theatrical release in the United States.
The theater run is coming as part of Studio Ghibli Fest 2019, a series of limited theater screenings for Studio Ghibli’s animated movies, which are sponsored by GKIDS and Fathom Events.
Featured above, you can view a new teaser for the western release. The screening will last for two days – July 1st and 2nd, and will include the English dub and the Japanese original, respectively.
This is the first time the film is being shown off in American theaters. After its Japanese theatrical run, it was later dubbed and released by Disney for home video.
Here’s a brief synopsis on the movie:
A chance encounter with a mysterious cat sends Shizuku, a quiet schoolgirl, on a quest for her true talent. Together with Seiji, a boy determined to follow his dreams, and enchanted by The Baron, a magical cat figurine who helps her listen to the whispers of her heart, Shizuku embarks on a life‑changing adventure that takes her beyond the boundaries of her imagination.
