Metronomik have released a trailer for their music-based action game No Straight Roads.
The game has you play as an indie-rock band fighting back against an “EDM Empire”- though other genres of music do come about.
Staff involved with the project include director Wan Hazmer (Final Fantasy XV Lead Game Designer) and Daim Dziauddin (Street Fighter V Concept Artist). The focus of the game is “elevating the role of audio in game design without turning it into a rhythm game, and using strong visuals to tell a story of music cultures and ideals.” Further, “The game is not just about rock versus EDM, but it’s also about the clash of ideals and different mindsets of why people play music.”
The music in the game will react to the context of what is happening akin to Nier Automata, Kingdom Hearts and Devil May Cry. The press release going further, stating “The only difference is that you have a huge advantage in this game if you understand the relationship between the boss attacks and the music.” Players will also be able to turn props into weapons with “the power of music” while changes in music shift in a seamless and dynamic manner.
No Straight Roads launches sometime this spring 2019 on Windows PC and PlayStation 4.
