We Happy Few Banned Again in Australia

Following the previous banning of We Happy Few in Australia, the game’s ban was appealed and the game was given a proper rating. Now, Australia has once again banned the game.

The IARC Australian ratings board has refused the game’s classification once again, likely due to the game’s portrayal of drug use.

The game was originally banned for its in-game hallucinogenic drug, “Joy,” which the characters take to forget a shared trauma. The player has to survive the game without the user of the drug.

The ban on the game comes in a wave of classification refusals by the Australian ratings board, many of which are likely to be overturned. This wasn’t the case with DayZ, which had to completely remove mere references to drugs in the game.

We Happy Few is available on Windows PC (via Steam and GOG), PS4, and Xbox One.
