WayForward is known for making some pretty awesome games, whether they be original concepts or remakes of classics, like the recently released DuckTales HD remake.
Now, they have revealed a kickstarter for a new entry in their Shantae series, which originally launched way back in 2002 on the Gameboy Color. The new game is being dubbed Shantae: Half Genie Hero.
This new entry will be available for pretty much everything if it gets funded, including PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Steam and Wii U. Their goal is $400,000, and they’ve already crossed a fourth of it in about 24 hours or so.
The story in Half Genie Hero starts out with Shantae waking up from a deep sleep, making her go into a dreary forest to look for answers as to why she was woken up. In a nearby town named Scuttle Town, she discovers a mysterious trapdoor and beyond that, a strange cave. A voice calls out, beckoning her to a fountain.
After she touches its waters, she’s transported away to the Genie Realm, only to notice she is standing on a magical seal. Powerless, she watches as a powerful evil tries to escape from this seal. Suddenly, the entire chamber shakes with a loud roar and everything goes white. Shantae wakes up in her bed, wondering if it was just a dream, or a premonition of things to come.
The game will progress like a side scrolling adventure game of yore, meaning there will be chapters that will each have their own subplots, unique enemies, puzzles and of course – bosses. You can revisit previous chapters to unlock new paths, powers and even secret plotlines.
