Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Far Cry 6 All Support Free Upgrades to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X

Watch Dogs: Legion Assassin's Creed Far Cry 6

Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Far Cry 6 will all support free upgrades to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions from current generation consoles.

While not explicitly mentioned during the Ubisoft Forward conference, the Far Cry 6‘s official website states “Purchase Far Cry 6 on PlayStation®4 or Xbox One and upgrade your game to the next-gen version (PlayStation®5 or Xbox Series X) at no additional cost.”

The UbiStore also has the same statement in its listing for Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Far Cry 6; when viewing the standard edition of each game.

The Ubisoft FAQ on game upgrades states that the only examples where a player cannot upgrade is from a physical current-generation game to a discless console. So far this only includes the PlayStation 5 S, though we feel Ubisoft’s statement future-proofed for if there is a digital-only Xbox Series X.

Further, the FAQ explains users cannot upgrade from a digital current generation game to a physical next generation game. Those upgrading from physical to digital will still need to use the disc to launch the game on next generation consoles.

While Microsoft announced their Smart Delivery upgrade system first, Sony have appeared to be matching Microsoft with upgrading major titles. Previously Sony had stated “the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable” on the PlayStation 5.

Watch Dogs: Legion launches October 29th for Windows PC (via the Epic Games Store, and UPlay), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and Holiday 2020 for PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla launches November 17th on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia.

Far Cry 6 launches February 18th, 2021, for Windows PC (via UPlay), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.
