Following the mass shooting at a Walmart Supercenter in El Paso, Texas on August 3, a new report points to retail giant Walmart removing all in-store advertisements for violent video games.
The new report (via Twitter, thanks Vice) claims Walmart employees received memos from corporate headquarters asking for the immediate removal of “signing and displays referencing violence.”
“Remove your store for any signing or displays that contain violent images or aggressive behavior. Remove from the salesfloor or turn off these items immediately,” the memo reads.
The memo also notes employees must unplug or turn off video game display units with demos of violent video games, “specifically PlayStation and Xbox units,” and goes as far as saying to “cancel any events promoting combat style or third-person shooter games that may be scheduled in Electronics.”
Furthermore, while Walmart publicly denied any restrictions on gun sales in their stores, the new memo did note for the removal of movies and “hunting season videos” in the Sporting Goods section.
