Welcome to Waifu Wednesday, Nicchiban’s new column where we talk about anime characters, their appeal, and a little on their history.
Today on Waifu Wednesday, Momosuzu Nene from the fifth generation of Hololive! Nene is the only “human” cast member of the fifth generation and is known for her humor.
Debuting last August, Nene is one of the members of Hololive’s fifth generation which includes Shishiro Botan, Omaru Polka, and Yukihana Lamy. Her backstory is that she’s a girl from another world trying to become an idol and sing her own anime introduction; which is simple as far as Hololive backstories go, but Nene makes up for it with her enthusiasm.
The great thing about Nene is that she almost always says yes to proposals. But that means you’ll have to settle for being Husband #1983, even lady fans have to settle for the husband status as Nene reserves the “wife” title for Ina from Hololive EN, and gen mate Lamy.
Nene is popular thanks to her upbeat attitude and possibly due to the fact that she’s got the most “boing-boing” out of all of 5th gen (Botan may come close). Fans endearingly post memes of Nene where she’s a seal, a trend she’s embraced wholeheartedly, even making cute seal noises on stream.
Earlier this month, Nene revealed her 3D model which she’ll potentially use for future idol concerts, and maybe make an appearance in the weekly animated series Holo no Graffiti.
Nene ultimately fills a variety of roles as a waifu, possessing a hot and cold sort of contrast between her curvaceous body but with an enthusiastic and excitable personality like a small dog.
Her upbeat personality and willingness to go along with almost any joke has won her a lot of “husbands”. Despite lacking animal ears or a supernatural backstory, Nene has managed to carve out a place for herself through sheer tenacity and cheerfulness.
