Vudu is being rebranded to Fandango at Home

Vudu

Longtime digital movie and television distributor Vudu is getting rebranded to match its most recent owner, Fandango, though nothing else seems to be changing.

Vudu will soon become Fandango at Home, reflecting their parent company Fandango, the popular American movie ticket retailer, who also owns movie critique site Rotten Tomatoes.

“While our name may be different, our mission to bring you the latest movies and TV shows straight to your favorite screen remains the same,” the company said in a statement. “Stay tuned for exciting details ahead.”

When will Vudu get renamed to Fandango at Home?

A date for when Vudu will officially be rebranded to Fandango at Home wasn’t given, though it will be hard to fit that entire name on the LG remote button, which they’ve had for a number of years.

A bit of history on Vudu, the company

Originally founded back in 2004, Vudu started with hardware, ironically, and their Vudu Box that would stream digital content from thousands of titles. In 2009 they were the first on-demand service to offer high-definition movies for download, to own.

A bit later in 2010 they got acquired by retailer giant Walmart, and finally they got sold off to NBCUniversal media subsidiary Fandango. Through the years Vudu has added and removed content and other services, like Disney’s Movies Anywhere (which you can connect to your Vudu account) or the removal of their “After Dark” service (which provided adult content).

Confusingly, FandangoNOW was rolled into Vudu after the later merger as it had the larger customer base, so the Vudu name was kept at that time.

Various other competing services all came under the same corporate umbrella as Vudu over the years, including: Walmart accounts, AMC theater accounts, and the aforementioned FandangoNOW – all of which can be migrated over to the Vudu / Fandango account system.
