Viz Media have announced they will be producing a new print and digital version of The Fist of the North Star manga in Summer 2021.
While they were known as Viz Communications, Viz Media had released the first 16 chapters, and then up to Chapter 44 until 1997. Gutsoon! Entertainment produced Fist of the North Star: Master Edition with digital coloring between 2002 to 2003, but only produced nine volumes before withdrawing from the US markets and eventually ceasing operations in 2004.
Detail on this new English print are scant. Aside from the initial tweet, subsequent replies to other users [1, 2, 3] revealed that it will feature color pages, hardcover, and will be the larger manga size as oppose to the smaller books sometimes released.
It is possible (but not confirmed) that this edition will finally produce all 27th volumes with official English translation.
For those unfamiliar, the story takes place after the nuclear war of the 1990s reduced earth to a desert wasteland. Kenshiro, a student of the deadly Hokuto Shinken martial art, finds his fiancee kidnapped; beginning his quest across a post-apocalyptic land full of gangs and martial artists.
The manga was written by Yoshiyuki Okamura (also known as Buronson), illustrated by Tetsuo Hara, and published by Shueisha. Its original run was from 1983 to 1988, with 245 chapters and 27 volumes.
