Visions of Mana dev Ouka Studios reportedly facing layoffs, full closure

Even though Visions of Mana is was just released on August 29th, a new report claims its developer Ouka Studios was hit with layoffs and may be shut down entirely.

The new report (via Bloomberg) says Ouka Studios parent company NetEase has cut “all but a handful of jobs” at the developer.

Furthermore, the report cites “people familiar with the matter” that Ouka’s last staff will oversee the rollout of their final games, before getting totally shut down amidst NetEase rethinking their investments into Japan.

When reached out to for comment on the report a NetEase spokesperson said they had “nothing to announce” regarding the layoffs and potential studio closure.

“In supporting studios outside China, we craft our strategy based on our goal of providing better gaming experiences to local and global players,” a NetEase spokesperson said. The company is “thus always making necessary adjustments to reflect market conditions.”
