Made specifically for the HTC Vive (Steam VR) and Oculus Rift, Wizard Online is, unlike the plain name would suggest, a very impressive-looking title.
Made with Unreal Engine 4 and supporting Directx 12 (If it can beat Final Fantasy XV to market, it’ll be the first game to do so), Wizard Online looks like a darkly-colored Harry Potter meets World of Warcraft, with a fair amount of hand gesturing thrown in for good measure.
Wielding a spell-casting staff in one hand and a sword in the other, your character is said to have a very “Gandalf” style of fighting, which would be nice to see if they can make it work in an online environment where everyone is powergaming. Also worth mentioning is that you can defeat, capture, and train dragons to become your mounts.
It’s also said the game will be very dark, with Satan and Baphomet, as well as other ancient deities, running around the game world looking for players. Defeating one of these upper-level demons earns you a “satanic mount”, which sounds like something out of an episode of metalocalypse.
Though built for Virtual reality devices, the game can still be played without them and will eventually see an Xbox One and PS4 console release. Until the first in-game trailer is released in 10 days, you’ll have to settle for images found on the developer’s Facebook as well as their official homepage.
