Vince Zampella, co-founder of Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order), has announced (via the LA Times) he’s set to lead DICE Los Angeles in 2020, and they’ll be working on an original game.
The studio under Zampella is seemingly also set to be rebranded alongside their new title, as the developer has been acting as a support studio for DICE Stockholm (Battlefield and Star Wars Battlefront) up till now.
“We will probably rebrand,” Zampella said. “We want to give it a new image. We want people to say, ‘This is a destination you can go and make new content.’ I think they’ve kind of gotten the branding that they are the support studio for DICE Stockholm. I think rebranding is important for showing people, ‘Hey! Come work here. We’re going to do some amazing things.’”
Zampella noted the rebranded DICE LA will be “separate from DICE Stockholm and separate from Respawn.” It’s also worth mentioning this move doesn’t mean Zampella is leaving Respawn, however he described his position within the developer as more of a head coach.
With Zampella shifting his focus to this new studio, Stig Asmussen (director on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order) will continue leading “a narrative-driven branch at Respawn” while Chad Grenier (director on Apex Legends) will continue to lead the team behind Apex Legends.
