Valve has filed a lawsuit against a Singapore tournament organizer for allegedly failing to deliver prize money to the winners of two Dota 2 events it held last year. The total amount owed to all parties involved is roughly $750,000, according to the suit.

Dot Esports reports that Global Electronic Sports Championship (GESC) ran two Dota 2 minor tournaments last year, GESC Indonesia and GESC Thailand. These events were held in March and May 2018, but by fall of the same year, winning teams had not been paid, nor had contractors or commentators. These allegations were all made public in an open letter posted in October of 2018.

Valve’s VP of marketing, Doug Lombardi, claims that a lawsuit was filed on April 8th of this year, in the High Court of the Republic of Singapore. Lombardi also claims that Valve has severed ties with GESC.

“Our agreements with tournament operators require timely payment to participants,” Lombardi stated. “We feel this is vital to the success of these events long term. When operators fail to meet those requirements, we follow up.”
