Valve had a big reveal of the Steambox yesterday at the consumer electronics show and it was front and center along with their very own Steam Controller.  The Steambox is a living room PC/gaming hybrid that comes with Valves new Steam OS.

We have all figured for a while that Valve probably wouldn’t be making these things themselves and that was confirmed today as they announced the third party manufactures they have on board making Steam Machines.

The list is as follows:

  • Alienware
  • Materiel.Net
  • Alternate
  • Next
  • CyberPowerPC
  • Origin
  • Digital Storm
  • Scan Computers
  • Falcon Northwest
  • Webhallen
  • GigaByte
  • Zotac
  • iBuyPower
  • Maingear

The units they had on display ranged in price from $499 Steam Machines all the way up to $2500 versions.  One manufacturer even talked about a $6000 dollar machine after customization.

Valve has neither confirmed nor denied if they will eventually start manufacturing their own units and they also haven’t mentioned if more third party companies will be involved in manufacturing down the road.  We will make sure to keep you posted however.
