Valve posted a new update for their recently announced Steam hardware, which is coming in three new upgrades for Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and Steam Frame.
Though the new hardware was announced with a release for sometime in 2026, Valve is noting recent memory and storage shortages have increased, and as such they must “revisit” their shipping schedule and pricing. It’s worth noting pricing hasn’t been announced yet.
“When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now. But the memory and storage shortages you’ve likely heard about across the industry have rapidly increased since then. The limited availability and growing prices of these critical components mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing (especially around Steam Machine and Steam Frame).”
Furthermore, Valve said their original goal of shipping in the first half of 2026 “has not changed.” However, Valve said they have “work to do” to get concrete pricing and launch dates, while “being mindful of how quickly the circumstances around both of those things can change.”
The new Steam Machine is a set top desktop computer with over six times the power of a Steam Deck, while the new Steam Frame is their latest virtual reality headset. Finally, they revealed a totally revamped Steam Controller.
For now, Valve is planning to publish further information on the new Steam hardware over on the Steam Hardware Blog.
