A new report has confirmed Valve is more than happy to get Game Pass on Steam, while the digital giant has no plans for their own competitor.
“I don’t think it’s something that we think we need to do ourselves, building a subscription service at this time,” Valve co-founder and CEO Gabe Newell said to PC Gamer. “But for their customers it’s clearly a popular option, and we’d be more than happy to work with them to get that on Steam.”
Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass is certainly a deal worth considering – $15 a month gets you access to hundreds of games, ranging from indies to AAA games, some even being available on Game Pass the day of release. They’re also constantly adding games to the platform, like today’s new additions.
Newell revealed that both Valve and Microsoft has been talking “quite a bit about the topic,” further reinforcing the note that Valve is more than happy to get Game Pass on Steam.
“If your customers want it, then you should figure out how to make it happen,” Newell said. “That’s where we’re at.”
Microsoft’s ambitions to acquire practically every game developer and/or publisher and push more people to Game Pass is seemingly working.
Xbox Game Pass is boasting over 25 million subscribers on the platform. Perhaps getting Xbox Game Pass onto competitor’s storefronts is another avenue for them to get more subscribers?
While you can’t directly play Game Pass games on Steam Deck out of the box, you can install Windows onto the handheld and switch between Steam and Game Pass that way. Microsoft also noted Xbox Streaming works really well on the handheld as well, so that’s another option for Xbox owners.
Valve’s recently launched Steam Deck is now available, and in three flavors: $399 (64GB), $529 (256GB), and $649 (512GB), over on the Steam store.
