The long-rumored Valve Corporation virtual reality headset is finally official – the company has announced the Valve Index.

While details are scant, the new teaser website has the above photo of the new head-mounted display, which will naturally tie into Valve’s existing SteamVR platform. A full reveal is coming in May of this year.

That’s basically all we have to go on for now – however previous rumors (via UploadVR) that the headset would support a wider, 135 degree field of view, compared to the 110 degree FOV that the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift currently support.

Previously, Valve partnered with HTC to produce the aforementioned HTC Vive for the initial rollout of their SteamVR platform. Now, they’re bringing everything in house for their first-ever VR headset.

We’ll keep you guys posted.
