Yasumi Matsuno, the creator behind one of the most beloved role playing / tactical games of all time, Final Fantasy Tactics, is at the helm of a new spiritual successor to the game. While the news was confirmed last year, he’s now taken his team and his vision to the crowd-funding kickstarter platform.
You can check out their kickstarter pitch below:
The coolest aspect of Unsung Story is the approach Matsuno and his team are taking with the classic genre – turning it on its head by putting a huge focus on the literal unsung heroes in various conflicts. Each hero constitutes an episode in the story, and each episode equates to several levels of gameplay.
The story takes place during the brutal conflict of the Seventy Seven Years’ War, and each episode will span a single year of the conflict, while others may take place over a decade or longer. The brilliant class based system will return, as well as a deep story filled with betrayal, warfare, espionage, intrigue, and of course – alliances.
Matsuno-san and his team are asking for only $600,000 to make this game. While this may sound like a lot compared to other kickstarters, it’s also not as much as other titles with equal talent behind them, some of which were asking over a million dollars.
I hate to simply order you to go and throw your money at them, but there’s only so many times an extremely talented Japanese developer with the pedigree that Yasumi Matsuno opens a kickstarter to fund a spiritual successor to one of his most beloved games.
