Unrated Version of Agony Cancelled Due to Financial and Legal Issues

Madmind Studios have tried on multiple occasions to get an “unrated” version of their survival horror game Agony to the public, due to the game having sole wildly not-safe-for-work content removed for it to even make an M rating.

On their Kickstarter page and Steam Community page they have confirmed this version will no longer be being released to the public.

“We regret to inform you that our company is currently struggling with financial problems,” the studio said. “Due to technical and legal reasons, Madmind must cancel the development of Agony Unrated. Part of the team will continue to support Agony on Steam and consoles by publishing new patches.”

Earlier in the year, the studio had hoped a Steam edition would allow an “uncensor patch” to be hosted separately akin to many adult games currently on the platform. This is due to most stores and major consoles refusing to host a game with an Adult Only rating.

These hopes were dashed on 28th May when they confirmed on their Steam Community page that they could not do so without legal issues such as the game being banned and the developers being sued. This resulted in changes that would affect “only several seconds from two endings (out of seven) and some scenes that may be unlocked only after the end of the game.”

Agony is available now for Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
