Microsoft and Unity have revealed that all Xbox One developers that are registered in their ID@Xbox development program will receive the entire Unity engine free of charge.
Chris Charla, the director of ID@Xbox had this to say over on the Xbox News Blog:
Will we devote marketing and promotion to promising looking titles in development? Of course. But we want to make sure the dev who’s working away in Omaha, or Coventry, or Chiba will have the same shot to realize their vision on Xbox One as one of my developer friends we hang out with in Seattle or at a trade show like GDC or Gamescom.
The Unity support on Xbox One will allow full implementation of every feature of the console, from Kinect to SmartGlass streaming. Unity also supports Windows and Windows Phone development, so if you’re looking to put your game across all three, that is even more tangible now.
