Underworld Ascendant, a spiritual successor to 1992’s Ultima Underworld that is being developed by Otherside Entertainment, is now on Kickstarter.

Paul Neurath, the co-founder of long-defunct Looking Glass Studios, acquired the rights to make a new Underworld RPG from EA last year. Neurath has said that the new roleplaying game will “retain the distinctive fantasy RPG gameplay of the originals”, while “push[ing] forward with new innovations.”

He and his studio of veterans, Otherside Entertainment, already have a prototype of Ascendant running on PC.

The kickstarter’s minimum goal is $600,000, which will ensure a core, single-player game for Windows PCs. Stretch goals are currently planned for up to $1,200,000; Linux and Mac ports will be ensured at $750,000. If you’d like to find out more and/or want to support the project, the kickstarter is here.
