Underworld Ascendant, Ultima Underworld’s Spiritual Successor, Now on Kickstarter

Underworld Ascendant, a spiritual successor to 1992’s Ultima Underworld that is being developed by Otherside Entertainment, is now on Kickstarter.

Paul Neurath, the co-founder of long-defunct Looking Glass Studios, acquired the rights to make a new Underworld RPG from EA last year. You can watch him, Tim Stellmach, and Richard Garriott talk about Underworld Ascendant and its predecessors in the above video, and see some concept art for the game below.

Neurath has said that the new roleplaying game will “retain the distinctive fantasy RPG gameplay of the originals”, while “push[ing] forward with new innovations.”

He and his studio of veterans, Otherside Entertainment, already have a prototype of Ascendant running on PC.

The kickstarter’s minimum goal is $600,000, which will ensure a core, single-player game for Windows PCs. Stretch goals are currently planned for up to $1,200,000; Linux and Mac ports will be ensured at $750,000. If you’d like to find out more and/or want to support the project, the kickstarter is here.
