The good guys may be Under Defeat, but they will be what brings the bad guys under attack. Under Defeat HD flies back into the spotlight as the game becomes featured on PlayStation Plus, with a discount knocking the game’s price down to a measly $2.69 USD. Under Defeat HD is a shoot ’em-up (or shmup) game set during a fictional conflict, where you and your co-pilot hijack a state-of-the-art attack helicopter, in a last-ditch effort to defeat the Empire and end a decade-long war.
Originally, Under Defeat was an arcade game, but was then ported to the SEGA Dreamcast. It was met with great praise for its depth, traditional shooting combat, and gritty wartime atmosphere. It may sound simple on the surface, but the game provides traditional, classic, white-knuckle shmup combat, in which your lone helicopter faces an entire army in the quest for world peace. The game comes from legendary Japanese arcade developers G. Rev.
G. Rev has had their reputation forged from their past work with Taito. They were behind G-Darius, as well as my personal favorite PSOne classic, RayStorm (which can also be found on iOS platforms). Throughout their portfolio, they continued to work on various other shooting games, fine-tuning their skills in making quality action titles. Additional examples can be found in Ikaruga and Gradius V.
For such a price, it would be a great victory to grab this, and not miss out. Under Defeat is also available for the Xbox 360 through the Xbox Live Marketplace. If you want to throw a few dollars towards an incredible shmup, head over to the Playstation Store.
