A new release date for Umihara Kawase Fresh! has been added to the game’s Steam Store page.
While Gematsu states there has been an announcement from Success Corporation and developer Studio Saizensen, neither company has posted any such message on their English websites or Twitter accounts as of this time of writing [1, 2, 3, 4].
However, Steam Database (a third party website dedicated to tracking changes on Steam’s database) notes the game’s release date was added to the store page earlier today.
A press release has most likely been issued to Japanese websites, as the game does not support English text (and therefore primarily for Japanese customers). Even so, there is seemingly no restriction for western users to buy the game. This is curious, considering the game is available on Nintendo Switch in English.
The game is also available on PlayStation 4 in Japan. While no western release of that version has been announced, Gematsu does note that PS4 Patches (a website dedicated to tracking updates to the PlayStation store database) found listings for the game on North American and European servers.
The game features Umihara Kawase in a world of living sushi, using her fishing rod to latch herself onto surfaces and swing through platforming stages. The game features an open world, a new cooking system, and guest character Cotton, who can fly (Translation: Gematsu).
You can find the full rundown (via Nintendo) below.
When a young traveling chef named Kawase arrives in the frontier town of Kingness, she finds it to be a perfect real-life replica of a town that she used to dream of as a child. Intrigued, she takes a job as a delivery person and occasional chef for a local restaurant. Through exploration and conversations with the locals, Kawase gradually learns the history of the town, the mysterious castle that floats above it, the dangerous cavern that lurks below it and the unspeakable demons who have terrorized its residents.
In Umihara Kawase Fresh!, Kawase carries a fishing lure with “rubber-band action.” The lure can be used as a grappling hook to swing from platforms, as a winch to raise or lower herself while suspended, as a bungee cord to slingshot herself in any direction and as a weapon to stun or defeat enemies. Features a large explorable map, more than 75 unique quests, time attack mode, dozens of unique recipes to collect and prepare, more than 50 unique enemies and bosses, unlockable alternate playable characters and more!
Umihara Kawase Fresh! is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 (in Japan), and May 28th on Windows PC via Steam.
