The Ukrainian-born Miss Japan winner Carolina Shiino has given up her crown and title after it’s discovered she was having an affair with a married man.

According to The Mainichi, Shiino allegedly had an affair with a married man who is both a doctor and social media influencer.

Initially, the contest organizers stood behind their decision as Shiino claimed she stopped seeing him once she learned he was married; this however, turned out to be a lie and she had continued to see the man after learning he was married.

Shiino’s victory in the recent Miss Japan contest sparked some controversy, as critics felt that ethnic Japanese should be the only ones eligible. Carolina Shiino however, has lived in Japan most of her life and is a fully naturalized citizen, with all the responsibilities and privileges that entails.
