Two Tribes to Stop Game Development After RIVE Launches

Two Tribes have announced they’ll be halting game development after their latest game, RIVE, ships in September of this year.

The Toki Tori series developer explained the reasoning behind their decision to end game development, in a blog post.

According to the veteran developer, the industry simply progressed in development while they were somewhat reliant on the past.

“Long story short (grandfathers like to digress!): when running a company, you need to be on top of your game, not just in terms of the product you’re making, but business-wise too,” Two Tribes said in the blog post.

“And we just aren’t on top of the games business anymore. Therefore, it makes sense to focus our attention elsewhere, perhaps even outside the games industry. We simply don’t know yet; but we do know that RIVE is going to be our parting gift to you and we’re making damn sure it’s going to be an awesome one!”

RIVE is a “unique 360-degree shooter/platformer hybrid” that lets you unleash complete destruction. Here are the game’s key features:

  • Shoot and jump through spectacular battles and setpieces
  • Hack and control your enemies
  • Play the role of space scavenger Roughshot on a mysterious starship
  • Use the Falcon, Tesla, Kessler and Blunders special attacks
  • Play in extra game modes: Brutal, Single-Life and Speedrun

Two Tribes plan on remaining open as a business, supporting their customers and partners, even after RIVE launches across PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Wii U, and Xbox One.
