Though Skywind, the project recreating Morrowind in the latest Elder Scrolls engine still gets the lion’s share of gamer’s attention, the mod involving Oblivion’s re-imagining is still going on, regardless. It’s a bit farther along too, it seems, since a recent upload to the project’s youtube channel reveals a whopping 45 minutes of footage from the soon-to-be-completed game.
Focusing mainly on exploration and watching god rays spill through the foliage at different angles, there are some actual bits of combat starting at 9:24. The game does still move and feel like Skyrim, though it also has that more open, “greener” look that Cyrodiil possessed and Oblivion showed off so well.
As if that wasn’t enough to eat up your day’s productivity, there’s also a video going over the content produced so far for Oblivion’s expansion, Shivering Isles:
You’ll notice though that the enemies tend to move rather awkwardly and don’t seem to fight back much, if at all. This is apparently due to the navigational AI not being added in yet, which is obviously needed if the mod is ever to reach a playable state.
There is talk of having a public release when the mod hits version 0.3, but since it’s an entirely community-run project, it’s hard to say when that will be. If you’re interested in helping, or just watching its development, you can do so at their official website.
