Twitch is a wild platform, a place where playing competitive shooters is placed next to lounging in a hot tub and doing yoga. The latest controversy has one streamer threatening another live while streaming.
Despite all the controversies that Twitch has faced over the years, one thing that they have always been criticized for was their inability or unwillingness to quickly tackle is harassment, bullying, and threats. So, when small-time streamer G5_Sin went on a threat filled tirade against fellow streamer JTX_live, it should come to no surprise that Twitch took action against him.
G5, a smaller streamer, had been building his audience through a process called, “support for support”, similar to “follow for follow” on Twitter, or “sub for sub” on YouTube. This is a process in which smaller content creators attempt to boost each other’s popularity artificially by watching each other’s content to try and promote it into the algorithm.
Another streamer, JTX, publicly spoke out about this practice and G5 didn’t take kindly to his criticism. In a bizarre stream, G5 compared himself to rappers and other celebrities before laying out his threats while waving a firearm:
“JTX, I will beat the shit out of you so bad, your mother will cry, bro. If you don’t have a mother…fucker, I don’t care. I will make your next of kin cry […] I will fly this motherfucker to New York City, To Manhattan […] If I fly this dude out to Manhattan … and I bring him to a side street, you think these police are gonna give a fuck that I beat the shit out of him?”
The nature of the threats prompted JTX to contact Twitch support, of which he commented:
“Reporting this kind of thing to people takes some thick skin, and unfortunately being threatened comes with the territory. I won’t be changing my trip to the USA later this year, but I am more cautious about who has my address now,” JTX said.
In a delusional post to Twitter, G5 made the following comment about his ban and the accusation that he was making threats with a firearm.
“Agreed but I never threatened harm with it, sure u can say “it was implied” but nah there’s a lot more to an edited video u see, and u have to ask what could make a person even act like that, if being fair,” G5 said. “That’s just my outlook. I can edit anything to manipulate it”
Twitch has not responded to requests for comment. But, as of this time G5’s Twitch account appears to have been deleted and his Twitter has gone on protected mode. Whether the former was his choice or not to delete his account is not yet known.
