Studio Trigger resisted calls to remove loli character Rebecca from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Animation studio Trigger is said to have been insistent that a certain character in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners remain in the series after initial pushback from game developer CD Projekt Red.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is the latest anime series on Netflix which has captured global attention for its setting, artwork, and of course the creative direction of studio Trigger. The studio is responsible for other popular series like Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, and the upcoming Delicious in Dungeon anime.

It’s revealed that the team at CDPR initially resisted the inclusion of Rebecca for being a “loli” character. However ultimately the game company trusted studio Trigger and Rebecca has become one of the most iconic and beloved characters of the series.

You can find a clip of the interview where Rebecca comes up below.

“CD Projekt Red first got the character design for Rebecca and they were like ‘She’s a loli. Lolis don’t exist in Night City. It doesn’t fit the Cyberpunk 2077 aesthetic’. But Trigger was like ‘No, the loli must stay.'”

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is available to watch now on Netflix.
