The U.S. House of Representatives this week has passed the TRACED Act, a new bill focused entirely on blocking those annoying robocalls you or someone you know has probably received.

TRACED, which is short for the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence, will require phone carriers to implement a caller authentification system, and require them to block the robocalls for free.

The vote was passed in the House of Representatives with a nearly unanimous vote of 417-3. The bill will reportedly extend the time government regulators have to track phone scammers, and give them more power to penalize them, when found.

“The robocall issue is one issue, maybe the one issue, that’s united everybody, Republicans, and Democrats,” said Rep. David Kustoff (R-TN).

Rep. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) added, “Today, the house is giving Americans back control of their phones.”

Due to the near bipartisan support for ending a truly annoying phenomenon, the TRACED Act is expect to also pass in the Senate in the coming weeks, leaving President Trump the remaining government body to sign the act into law.
