Germany-based indie studio Pixwerk have been working on a top-down, pixelated twin-stick shooter named Tower 57.
Tower 57 is described as the love child of The Chaos Engine and Alien Breed, complete with fast-paced action, lots of crazy weapons, challenging enemies, and of course – those destructible environments. Two developers, creator benitosub and pixelartist Cyangmou, have been doing the bulk of the work on the game.
Featured above, you can view the game’s Kickstarter pitch video. The art style in the game is described as a “decadent art deco-meets-cyberpunk world,” where humanity is split up into warring city-states built within mega-towers, each of which are surrounded by a post-apocalyptic, radioactive wasteland.
The game engine is focused on giving you the option to let you play the way you want – from the destructible environment to having local co-op play. The key thing is using your environment to your advantage, so that you can overcome your enemies, and not the other way around.
The game also supports full gamepad play, alongside traditional mouse and keyboard controls:
You can pick out of six playable characters, each with their own look, special abilities, and perks. As you progress through the game’s multitude of levels, you’ll experience a maze of floors made up of urban environments, secret walls, and uncharted passageways.
The game has just launched on Kickstarter, and is quickly getting to its halfway point at roughly $20,000, of its $49,460 funding goal. You can also find Tower 57 over on Steam Greenlight, so make sure to consider throwing a vote their way.
If funded, Tower 57 will be released for PC, Mac, and Linux.
