Series creator ZUN has announced the next mainline Touhou game, Touhou Kinjoukyou: Fossilized Wonders, the 20th official mainline game for the series.

According to ZUN, he’s aiming to make Fossilized Wonders a traditional bullet hell shooter and will go “back to basics” with just two main characters, Reimu and Marisa. Touhou Kinjoukyou: Fossilized Wonders is in development for Windows and will also get a Steam release.

A demo will be released by May 5th during Reitaisai 22, the yearly Touhou Project convention at Tokyo Big Sight. A release is expect for this summer during Comiket 106, which runs from Aug 16th through the 17th.

Storyline

We have sensed that something is happening in the fantasy world. However, only a few people were aware of it.

What was clearly reacting abnormally was the sanctuary, the untouchable land that exists at the foot of the mountain and the power of the anomaly.

Clad in the power of the anomaly that has been resolved until now, she challenges the sanctuary.

It is the usual bullet-hell shooter. This time, we aimed to create a game in a particularly orthodox style, in which you can enjoy a pleasant barrage of bullets.

Since this is the 20th installment of the commemorative series, the two main characters are Reimu and Marisa, going back to the basics.

Combine that with 8 mysterious mutated stones to challenge the enemy. This time, we hope you will enjoy the world view and the mysterious story, which you have only seen in Touhou.

The screenshots are still under development and have already started to change.

The game is scheduled to be released at the Summer Comiket in August. The demo version will be distributed at the Reitaisai Festival on May 5 at the Big Sight. We will also have a downloadable version on Steam.

You can play up to 3 levels of the demo version. There is also a limit to the number of mutation stones you can possess.

I think it is a miracle that such a classic game can be created in this age.
