Totto-chan: The Little Girl at the Window

The upcoming film Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window will hit Japanese theaters this December.

Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window is based on an autobiographical series of articles which were compiled into a book of the same name.

The book follows the daily live of Tetsuko Kuroyanagi who was growing up in Tokyo around the time of World War 2.

After being expelled from a public school, she enrolled in an unconventional elementary school which allegedly held classes in abandoned train cars.

The school was run by an eccentric headmaster Sosaku Kobayashi who was ahead of the curve on helping students learn by encouraging their self-expression.

An English premiere for the movie has yet to be announced, though the book has been published in English as early as 1984.
