If you’re excited about Planescape spiritual successor and inXile’s next big crowdfunded CRPG Torment: Tides of Numenera and didn’t back it at a high enough level to enter the beta, you’ll be pleased to know that the game has now opened its doors to the public via Steam early access.
Selling for 44.99, you can get into the beta version of the game as its final stages of development wind down ahead of its official release sometime later this year. Early reviews of Torment on Steam seem to point to fans being pleased with what’s been finished so far, but they note – perhaps due to it still being in beta – that it is a bit rough.
A trailer, which you can see linked at the top of this page, shows off a small sample of the game’s turn-based combat along with its highly detailed backdrops – something that its predecessor was famously known for. Torment also promises to have balanced, purposeful encounters that seek to avoid the kind of “trash mob” style of frequent battling that other CRPGs are often criticized for.
