Torchlight Developers Announce New Space Adventure

Travis Baldree and Erich Schaefer left Runic Games a while back, and while the Torchlight world will probably still do well without them, many have wondered what their new company, Double Damage Games, has been up to since its formation. With just the two former Diablo/Hellgate devs making up the entirety of the company’s roster, it was believed that they might be working on small games for mobile platforms.

Well, you can scratch that idea. Seems like they have been toiling away at creating something similar to the heavily hyped Star Citizen; A deep space adventure/RPG that has some fairly impressive visuals for a two-man project.

A blurb on their website sums up the game:

Rebel Galaxy is a swashbuckling space adventure, with action-packed combat, exploration, discovery, trade, and “negotiation” with the outlandish denizens at the edge of the known universe.

As the commander of an immensely powerful star destroyer, you’ll battle pirates, explore anomalies, befriend aliens, scavenge battle wreckage, mine asteroids, and discover artifacts. Choose your path as a roguish do-gooder, crafty space-trader or power-hungry privateer – or maybe a little of each! Buy larger and more powerful craft with your hard-earned credits, and outfit them with a variety of wicked weapons and defenses. Set in a galaxy of fantastic sights, and secrets to be found, Rebel Galaxy is above all a space epic of adventure, exploration, and combat.

The edge of the universe is a pretty dangerous place, so watch your back.

Coming to Steam, PS4 and (maybe) XBox One in 2015.

Rebel Galaxy is a lot different than the usual hack-n-slash ARPGs Baldree and Schaefer gained fame for creating, but it seems they’re quite passionate about this new title. This will be one to keep on eye on, especially if Star Citizen fails to deliver.
