Need something new to watch but don’t know what to look for? Niche Gamer has you covered!
Below are 6 of the hottest new anime releases starting/ongoing in Fall 2023. A lot of them have just started, so you can hop right in and claim you were there before it was mainstream.
6- Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions
The anime focuses on the unskilled police officer Totomaru Isshiki and the eccentric private detective Ron Kamonohashi, who band together after Ron is expelled from Detective Training Academy Blue, due to an incident nicknamed the “Bloody Field Trip”.
Ron Kamonohashi’s Forbidden Deductions is a really fun indirect adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes character. Kamonohashi is too eccentric for his own good, and there’s a reason why some adaptations refer to him as a deranged detective.
Episode 2 of the anime is already out, and you can watch the first episode for free on Crunchyroll.
5- I’m in Love with the Villainess
Office worker Oohashi Rei is overworked to death and reincarnates in her favorite otome game as Rae Taylor, the main character. Instead of going for the boys, however, Rae falls in love with Claire François, the game’s antagonist.
I’m in Love with the Villainess is very similar to My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom, except with a yuri twist. Claire François is a bit hard to like at first, especially because of how bossy she can be at times, but it doesn’t take long for her to start becoming more likeable.
You can watch I’m in Love with the Villainess on Crunchyroll.
4- Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End centers around an elven mage and her relationships with an adventuring party. Frieren and her friends save the kingdom, and then part ways for 50 years.
Frieren returns to visit her adventurer friends, but finds them to have visibly aged. The anime is a nice character study of Frieren and her warped perception of time due to her extremely long elven lifespan, and touches upon the themes of loss and guilt.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is available on Crunchyroll, and you can watch up to episode 3 for free.
3- Berserk of Gluttony
Following the trend of isekais where the main character thinks he has a weak power but it turns out to be massively useful, we have Berserk of Gluttony. Berserk of Gluttony is pretty similar to That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, except the main character is faced with an internal conflict between good and evil.
The main character Fate Graphite is humiliated by the noble family he works for due to having a seemingly useless power, but after killing a thief by accident, he discovers that his skill called “Gluttony” gives him infinite potential.
The anime seems to be more of the same, but it’s exactly what isekai fans enjoy watching, and it’s been shown to be massively popular.
Berserk of Gluttony is available on Crunchyroll, and you can watch the first episode for free.
2- SPY x FAMILY Season 2
The Forger family returns for a second season of espionage and humor as they face a new mission. Yor’s cruise ship expedition promises more comedic spy antics and heartwarming family moments.
SPY X Family took anime fans by surprise, because it managed to show that not every anime needs to be a constant shonen tournament where characters keep getting new powers and transformations, instead showing that a family’s antics can be enough.
Granted, the Forger family is far from normal, as its composed of a psychic, an international spy, and an assassin, but their family antics are heartwarming nonetheless.
SPY X FAMILY is available on Crunchyroll, and you can watch the entire first season for free. Season 2 is locked behind the premium plan.
1- JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2
Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most popular anime currently airing, going toe-to-toe with One Piece in terms of popularity.
Season 2 of the show continues Satoru Gojo’s story as he tries to save the world of Jujutsu from his evil ex-comrade Suguru Geto. Season 2 is close to wrapping up and had quite a few twists, including some really heavy moments.
The show pulls absolutely no punches and doesn’t waste your time , every episode of season 2 has been a banger, and fans are eager for more.
You can watch the entire first season of Jujutsu Kaisen for free on Crunchyroll, with season 2 being locked behind their premium access plan.
