Top 5 Similarities Between Video Games and Online Gambling at Casinos

5 Distinct Parallels Between Video Games and Online Casino Games

Are video games and online casino games one and the same? “No, of course not!” I hear you scream emphatically. For sure, some people may enjoy one and not the other, and even look down their noses at the other. And while they’re both games, and they’re both screen-based, one of the most glaringly obvious differences between these two is that one is gambling and one is simply gaming.

Surprisingly, a lot of people tend to mistakenly interchange the words ‘gaming’ and ‘gambling’. Of course, there are stark differences between the two. Granted, video games and online casino games are by no means the same thing. Yet, any avid gamer would also agree that there are indeed undeniable similarities, which might justify the frequent confusion.

However! Gaming vs gambling aside, there are plenty of parallels to draw between the two. Let’s break them down.

1. You’ll find the sun coming up before you know it

As a gamer, no matter which type of genre you get into, this will be a core memory. For 15 to 55, you’ll have had those nights where you’re at it for so long that so see the sun creeping up through the blinds. Truly an “Oh no” moment, are you the type of person that quickly switches off and rushes to bed, or the type who figures you’ve come this far anyway and may as well push through as long as you can?

Beware the disturbed sleep patterns! Try and check yourself before you wreck yourself. Set notifications to remind you it’s way past your bedtime and you have school/work/something useful to do tomorrow instead of sleep.

2. There’s constant evolution in the scene

Both video games and online casino games have grown up a lot – thanks to the power of processors and the innovation in graphics that continues to roll on and on. We build on the work of the past which means that games these days couldn’t even compare to how they were just 15 years ago.

With the Metaverse going full steam ahead, we’re likely to find plenty of new elements in both video games and online casino games that will make gameplay more social and immersive. VR and world building are just the beginning.

3. Game companies are always clamoring for top spot

Have you noticed how there is always plenty of news about which company is trying to buy another company in both the video game world and the online casino world?

The big one in the headlines this year has been Microsoft’s full tilt assault on trying to grab Activision Blizzard. However, the terms of the deal have many to stir up the antitrust watchdogs who’ve been taking a very close eye to what’s happening with big tech of late.

Similarly, as the expansion of online casinos continues to grow into new regulated markets like Ontario, online casino companies are getting purchased and eyeballed by incumbent gambling companies.

4. You might wind up spending a lot on microtransactions

Microtransactions are a fact of life these days. A few cents here, a few dollars there; when you’re spending small amounts it really is better for the psyche. While we will still shell out plenty for AAA titles, it’s becoming less and less common, as new ways of pricing and packaging are designed to keep players paying rather than just a one-off fee. The subscription industry is killing it.

The same goes for online casino games. While it’s unlikely that each play you make will cost very much, if you keep playing and don’t make a win you might find those little amounts stacking up pretty quick.

5. There is a style that will appeal to everyone

Love playing Call of Duty but hate playing Animal Crossing? Or love to play the slots but can’t stand roulette? The diversification of both of these gaming industries is so wide that there’s sure to be a title, genre, or even styling of game that will appeal to everyone. While your mom wonders how you can play “those shooting games” all day, she’s busy flipping over cards on her phone at the same time.

If you’re looking to get someone into gaming, it makes sense to take a look at them as a person, first. Don’t introduce them to your favorite game, instead, think about what type of game they might like to play. If they’re into fantasy novels then an RPG might go down a treat. If they’re big on KPop, some story-based KDrama titles on their phone could be a winner.

Your gaming experience is as unique as you are, whether it’s gaming or gaming combined with gambling.
