Adult Swim have announced the network premiere date of Assassination Classroom on the Toonami programming block.
While the series originally aired in Japan in 2016, this will be a network first for Adult Swim and Toonami. Toonami announced the addition to their lineup on their official Facebook page. You can read the full broadcast schedule below for the night of the premiere.
Assassination Classroom began as a manga series by Yusei Matsui in 2012, and was published by Weekly Shonen Jump. The series was picked up for an anime adaptation in 2016 by Studio Lerche. In the west, the manga has been licensed by Viz Media, while the anime has been licensed and dubbed by Funimation.
The series follows a tentacled alien who destroys most of the moon, and promises to destroy the Earth in a year. Rather than let the destruction unfold, the alien takes residence as a teacher, and encourages the students of Kunugigaoka Junior High School’s Class 3-E to find a way to kill him.
You can find the rundown (via Viz Media) below.
“Ever caught yourself screaming, ‘I could just kill that teacher’ What would it take to justify such antisocial behavior and weeks of detention? Especially if he’s the best teacher you’ve ever had and determined to help you discover your hidden talents, raise your grades, and acquire opportunities you never dreamed possible? How about blowing up the moon and threatening to do the same to Mother Earth—unless you take him out first?! Plus a reward of a cool 100 million from the Ministry of Defense!
Okay, now that you’re committed… How are you going to pull this off? What does your pathetic class of misfits have in their arsenal to combat Teach’s alien technology, bizarre powers and…tentacles?!”
Assassination Classroom will premiere on Toonami August 29th.
