The Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) have announced that the physical event of Tokyo Game Show 2020 has been cancelled, to due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The news comes via press release, stating the event will now be a purely online event. Tokyo Game Show 2020 was originally planned for September 24th, through to the 27th.

“TOKYO GAME SHOW 2020 (TGS2020), scheduled to be held from September 24 (Thu.) to 27 (Sun.), 2020, is now planned to take place online. TGS2020, which is usually held at Makuhari Messe, is cancelled. TGS2020 is organized by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA, Chairman: Hideki Hayakawa) and co-organized by Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. (President & CEO: Naoto Yoshida) and Dentsu Inc. (Representative Director: Hiroshi Igarashi)
Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on a global scale and the situation remains unpredictable in Japan as well, the organizer and the co-organizers have reached this decision after a long consideration to place the utmost priority on the health and safety of visitors, exhibitors and stakeholders. We ask for your kind understanding and cooperation.
More information will be announced as needed on the official website ( https://tgs.cesa.or.jp/en/ ) and press releases from late May.”
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic (also known as COVID-19 officially, or Chinese Flu to others) has affected many worldwide, from businesses to public gatherings and events.
This includes postponements of GDC, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the physical events for EVO 2020 and Fortnite Competitive tournaments, and cancellations E3 2020 (including digital events), the physical event for Gamescom 2020, and Comiket 98.
We also reported Japanese ratings board CERO finally resuming business, along with The International 2020 tournaments for DOTA 2 being delayed to 2021.
The Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering are mapping the virus’ spread [1, 2]. As of this time of writing, there have been over 3.847 million total confirmed cases worldwide, and over 2.293 million active cases. There have been over 269,000 deaths, however over 1.285 million people have made a “total recovery.”
Japan has had a total of 15,447 cases (9,972 active cases), 577 deaths, and 4,918 recoveries.
