Time Machine is a VR Game That Mixes Pokemon Snap and Dinosaurs

Pokemon Snap was a game that left many kids and adults mesmerized – and wanting more. Sadly, a newer version of that game hasn’t surfaced yet – that is, until now.

Papo & Yo developers Minority Media have been working on a VR game that looks to recapture that magic. Dubbed simply Time Machine, the new game got a trailer (featured above) revealed during this year’s E3.

The game begins with you inside your travel pod/craft, just outside the Monda Muzeo (World Museum in English). Your goal is to record and document the various dinosaurs and things within the past, by literally traveling back into the Jurassic period of our history.

Featured above, the E3 2015 trailer for the game reveals what Minority Media had previously shown to limited press earlier this year. The game is a first-person experience just like Pokemon Snap, but the addition of a virtual reality headset adds another layer of immersion.

While the game is currently pre-alpha, and it’s built exclusively for virtual reality headsets – although Minority Media hasn’t disclosed if it’ll work with HMDs other than the Oculus Rift. It’s worth mentioning that you’re not stuck on-rails, as you can explore the various worlds freely.

It’s not clear just how much data you have to collect, however, Minority Media teases repercussions to your actions, in the Jurassic.

You can find more information for Time Machine over on the game’s official website.

[Editor’s Note: The article originally stated the game was an on-rails experience, when it allows for free movement. This has been amended for accuracy.]
