Three New Games in Development at From Software, Including New Armored Core Title

armored-core-verdict-day-09-21-16-1

While From Software is still working on post-launch downloadable content for Dark Souls III, the Japanese company is already working on several other titles.

In an interview with IGN, From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki teased “several” of the new games for the company:

“So there are several titles that we are currently working on,” Miyazaki said to IGN. “Some of those are dark fantasy, some of those could be a mech [game] – that’s one thing. The second thing is that one of the new titles I’ve been working on will probably comply with the expectations from the fans in straightforward manner.”

Miyazaki was then asked directly if the mech game was a new Armored Core title, to which Miyazaki firmly replied, “Yeah, we’re already working on Armored Core.”

“The last thing is that another title will probably be a little bit weird. When we actually announce the title, probably fans will react with ‘oh, what the hell is this very weird game that Miyazaki has created?’”

Miyazaki teased the weird game a bit further:

“So when I say weird, I mean that the genre we’re trying to try might be a little bit weird. Not only that, but all the other actual game content might be a little bit weird, yes.”

Finally, when asked when fans could expect the three new games to finally launch, Miyazaki said the studio has “several obstacles to overcome” prior to releasing the games. He also added that “we’re not sure how many more years we need to build those,” but promised that he is hopeful to making an announcement in the future.

The most recent game in the Armored Core series, Armored Core: Verdict Day (featured above), launched back in 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Why are we getting excited for Armored Core? That franchise hasn’t been good in 10 years. It does customization well and that’s about it.

IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING! A new Armored Core game at last! My need for Mech games may never be fully satisfied, but a new AC game has been a dream shared by many for years. At least we can finally rejoice and rest easy knowing we’ll be mowing down each others AC’s (or getting rekt by something similar nine most likely) in the future once again.

The last 4 armored core games were held back by the horribly low
specs on the xbox 360 and ps3. Limited to 512 mb of ram shared between the CPU and the GPU on the xbox and 256 for each on the PS3. There was not really much more they could do on that hardware.

I would hope that the new armored core game would also be released on PC but even if its just on consoles we’re still looking at around 8GB on either console with much more powerful processing power than the previous generation.

While armored core 5 was (IMO) a total flop due to the horrible movement mechanics and generally slow pace of the game at times. While i did like mechanics like scan mode, which simply
turned off your weapons which helped you move around. that’s still not an excuse for the gameplay i believe it is a good time for them to get back into the franchise. I mean christ, best we had recently is that steaming pile called hawken. Even hoxton made fun of it…

That said; if AC4A was released on PC… i would play the shit out of that.

5 was so much better then 4 for movement mechanics and closer to a true armored core game. Biggest problem imo was the framerate really bogged down the enjoyment in 5 and VD.

I don’t know why people rave so much about 4 if anything it’s the odd one out in the series. It really was just spinning and circle strafing as fast as you could, really lame imo.

Going to link a video detailing the ac4a movement. just to show how much depth it actually had. Ac5’s movement was fitting to the game and also far easier to understand.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XTs6Gygyws

So the reason people rave about 4 so much is because it was one of the first games to really show off what fast paced mech games could be like on the new generation consoles. (ps3/360) I did enjoy the mission designs from the earlier games more than i did the ac4/4a missions if only because you needed to stop and think about where you going. Volcano? probably should use better cooling and put down the flamethrower so i don’t melt. That said, the simplicity of the missions in 4 and 4a is what made them fun to play. Most of them could be finished much faster if you think about what your AC your fighting. Armsforts were a cool idea but as with every boss in 4 and 5 they could be brought down in seconds if you did it right. For example, Answerer used assault armour so it had no defence right before it went off and you can 1 shot it at that point. Motherwill could also be killed in 1-2 uses of your assault armour.

AC5 did do a lot right, its just not what people expected after playing 4 and the online community died off really fast. The ground war idea was a good idea it just didnt sit well with the console community at the time.

Which actually kind of makes me a little concerned about the platform(s) its releasing on. Cant really say new generation “gamers” would be able to puck it up and enjoy it or even be any good at it.

It’s kind of ironic that the story in ac5 was supposedly 1000’s of years after 4A. All of the ac parts were super old and nothing even worked right half of the time. most of the ac’s were thrown together from scrap. (which is cool in its own respect)

The same thing sort of happened with gaming skill in the last ~15-20 years. older generation players relate more to the ac4 era AC’s that get things done while younger players today are closer to the ac5 AC’s that don’t seem like they could ever stand up to the older ones in terms of power.

I remember playing older games hand having a hell of a time trying to beat a boss or figure out a puzzle. now everything is just a tunnel and you cant even fail if you wanted to.

Well there sort of is a fanmade AC game made in the vein of AC4/4A using UE4. It’s really only at a basic stage though, so it’s only got like 4 AC’s or so, but it seems to play fairly well from the bit I’ve played of it.

And yeah I would be on board for a PC release of AC4A.

I played AC1 back in the day and loved it, I recently wanted to jump back into the series and went with Verdict Day (I think) and found it..really bad. It was very user unfriendly, I guess more hard core fans can appreciate that but it was nearly impossible for someone like me returning to the series fresh. Also the graphics were simply unacceptable, it looked like a PS2 game.
If they pull out the stops for the next one I’m on board, but Verdict Day left a bad taste in my mouth,

I don’t think you can blame 4 games being mediocre due to hardware limitations when gameplay was its main issue. We haven’t have a good AC game since Armored Core 3 on the PS2. Its been over 10 years.

They better come correct this time.
